Did you know select Tonies are like little linguistic chameleons? 🦎
That’s right, specific Tonies are designed to switch between languages depending on where you are in the world!
Â
It’s important to note that:
- Currently, this feature is only available in Canada.
This feature, requires an eligible Tonie with the language toggle icon.
- Please visit the section “How do I know if I can change my Tonie’s language?” for reference.
Only supports English and French at this time.
Whether you're exploring stories in Canada or simply want to enjoy your favorites in a different language, our Language Toggle feature makes it easy and fun to switch things up!

Certain Tonies are equipped with multilingual audio tracks identified by the language toggle icon, offering separate, full versions of the story in both English and French. For families in Canada, these Tonies allow you to manually switch between the two languages.
Unlike other bilingual or multilingual Tonies that blend languages within a single track or automatically transition from one language to another, these special Tonies keep each language track for English and French distinct and independently selectable.
You can explore the full tracklist and look for the Language Tonie icon for easy identification. If you’re in Canada and have a compatible Tonie with the language toggle icon, you can switch the language between English or French using the tonies app.
Changing the language is super easy, as long as two things are true:
You're in Canada, the only region that offers multilingual Tonies at the moment.
You have a Tonie designed with multilingual audio track capabilities indicated by the language toggle icon. Only English and French languages are available.
If both requirements apply, you're good to continue on!
Open the tonies app and log in to your Tonie account.
Tap on your "Collection".Â
ÂLocate your Tonie in the list with the Toggle Icon. If you have a large collection, you can use the "Tonies" filter to make your search easier.
Tip:Â Filter by product
ÂTap the Tonie with a Language icon.
Â-
If both your region and selected Tonie support language toggling, you’ll see a Language display along with a "Change" option. Simply click "Change" to toggle between English and French Version.
ÂÂ
Choose your preferred language (e.g., English or French) and click "Save" to apply it to your Tonie.
Â-
Apply the update based on the type of Toniebox you have.
- For Toniebox 1, please follow these steps: How do I update my Toniebox 1 or sync changes I've made?
- For Toniebox 2, please follow these steps: How do I update my Toniebox 2 or sync changes I've made?
🎉 Voilà ! Your Tonie will now tell their tale in the newly selected language.
If you see this language toggle icon next to your Tonie in your personal collection, it means your Tonie meets all the requirements and is eligible to switch between English and French tracks; available only if you're located in Canada.
You’ll also spot this icon on eligible Tonies in our store before purchase, so you’ll know in advance which ones support language switching.
Â
Â
Please note:
This feature is currently only available in Canada
-
It requires a Tonie that is marked with the language toggle icon
Currently, Frozen: Elsa Starter Tonie offers this multilingual functionality.
The feature supports English and French audio tracks only
Â
The language toggle feature is only available when certain conditions are met:
- You're in Canada, the only region that offers multilingual Tonies at the moment.
- You have a Tonie designed with multilingual audio track capabilities indicated by the language toggle icon. Only English and French languages are available.
If either of these conditions aren't met, the language toggle option will not appear in the tonies app, and the Tonie will play in its default language.
- After switching languages in the tonies app, apply the update based on the type of Toniebox you have.
- For Toniebox 1, please follow these steps: How do I update my Toniebox 1 or sync changes I've made?
- This allows the Toniebox 1 to recognize the change and download the new language content. Until the WiFi sync is complete, your Tonie will continue to play tracks in the previously selected language. Once the sync and download are finished, you’ll be all set to enjoy your Tonie in the new language, even offline, without needing a WiFi connection.
- For Toniebox 2, please follow these steps: How do I update my Toniebox 2 or sync changes I've made?
- Toniebox 2 will sync automatically while connected to a active internet. Once the new content package is downloaded, you’ll be all set to enjoy your Tonie in the new language, even offline, without needing a WiFi connection.
- For Toniebox 1, please follow these steps: How do I update my Toniebox 1 or sync changes I've made?
- You might notice that the track list appears blank for a few seconds during the transition. This is completely normal and should resolve quickly.
If you relocate outside of Canada, your eligible Tonie will retain the last language setting you selected. It won’t automatically update based on your new location. To change the language, you’ll need to use the tonies app while connected to WiFi.
Note: If your new location does not support the language toggle feature, the option may no longer be available. At this time, the tonies app is the only way to change a Tonie’s language, and the feature is limited to select Tonies in Canada only.
Yes, to change your eligible Tonie’s language, you’ll need the tonies app, your Toniebox 1 or Toniebox 2, and an active internet connection.
If you're in Canada with a eligible Tonie, you can easily switch between French or English using the app. This gives you full control over your Tonie’s language settings and ensures your Toniebox 1 or Toniebox 2 receives the updated content in the selected language.
