Did you just place a Tonie on your Toniebox and are wondering why the Toniebox LED is blinking blue? That's a great question!
There's a few different reasons why the Toniebox LED might be blinking blue when you place a Tonie on it:
If it's a new Tonie that has never been placed on that Toniebox before
In this case, the blinking blue Toniebox LED indicates that the Tonie's content is being downloaded onto the Toniebox. This initial download process typically takes just a few minutes.
Once the content has finished downloading, the Toniebox LED will turn solid green and an audio chime will play. This means that the Tonie has been fully downloaded onto the Toniebox. Once a Tonie is fully downloaded, it will no longer need Wi-Fi to play! If you do not hear any sound when the Tonie is placed on the Toniebox
In this case, we would first want to check to make sure that the volume of the Toniebox is turned up by pinching the bigger Toniebox ear a few times. If you still do not hear any sound, check out our support article with more detailed information here: The Toniebox LED keeps blinking blue and will not play any Tonies
If it's a Tonie that has been previously downloaded onto that Toniebox
In this case, there are two scenarios where this can occur:
- It's important to know that each Toniebox can download and store approximately ~200 Tonies at a time (the exact amount may vary slightly depending on the audio length of the downloaded Tonies). If the Toniebox storage is full and a new Tonie is downloaded onto the Toniebox, the oldest unused Tonie's content will automatically be removed from storage. This means that the next time that specific Tonie is placed back on the Toniebox, the content will just need to be re-downloaded.
- Have you ever noticed that some Tonies are slightly quieter than others? In November 2024, we started working to address this! As a result, some Tonies had their volume levels slightly adjusted to ensure the listening experience is uniform across all Tonies.
Any Tonie that had their volume level adjusted will automatically download this update the next time they are placed on the Toniebox (as long as the Toniebox is connected to Wi-Fi). This download process works the same as if it were a new Tonie being downloaded for the first time and should only take a few minutes to complete.
