Wow, the owl! This can be a sign that there is a connection issue. There’s no need to panic. The best thing to do is wait for a moment and simply try to connect to the Wi-Fi again. If the owl still can’t be scared away, let’s find out what kind it is and how best to deal with it.
We suspect this bird came fluttering by in one of the following situations:
- If you heard the code word 'Owl' during the setup process, you should reset the Toniebox to factory settings. Here's how:
- Restart your router by unplugging it from the power supply, waiting 10 to 15 seconds, and then plugging it back in. Waiting is important to ensure a clean restart. When restarted, the router cleans up its interim storage and deletes unnecessary connection data This clears a path, so to speak, for the Toniebox.
- Log in to my.tonies.com or the mytonies app with your login details and remove the Toniebox from your household in the ‘Tonieboxes’ section.
- Place the Toniebox on the charging station while connected to the power supply and turn them both upside down together so the ears are pointing downwards.
- Pinch both ears simultaneously for about 10 seconds until you hear an audio signal and the Toniebox turns off.
The Toniebox is now back in factory default condition and ready to be setup again. To set up, go to my.tonies.com/setup or use the mytonies app.

- If you heard the code word 'Owl' when you either:
- Put on a new Tonie or
- Squeezed one of the Tonieboxes ears for three seconds
Then we can try re-connecting the Toniebox to an available Wi-Fi network. Here's how:
-
- To re-connect to an available Wi-Fi network, you can use either the mytonies app or my.tonies.com/wifi. For steps walking through this process, check out our other support article here: How do I connect my Toniebox to a different Wi-Fi network?
If you continue to run into trouble, then restarting the Toniebox and/or your router may help. Here's how:
-
- Restart your router by unplugging it from the power supply, waiting 10 to 15 seconds and then plugging it back in again. Waiting is important to ensure that every part of the router is briefly without electricity and you can perform a clean restart. When restarted, the router cleans up its interim storage and deletes unnecessary connection data. This clears a path, so to speak, for the Toniebox.
- Restart your Toniebox by turning it upside down so that the ears are pointing downwards. Do not do this while it is on the charging station!
- Pinch both ears simultaneously for about 10 seconds until you hear an audio signal.
Now try to reconnect to the Wi-Fi again or put a Tonie on the Toniebox. If you still hear the ‘Owl’ code word, send us a message including your Toniebox ID and the Wi-Fi router model if possible.

One final note:
Your Wi-Fi router may be universally set to require manual allocation of a static IP to new devices. The Toniebox requires a DHCP server to operate. This should be activated as standard in all Wi-Fi routers. The best thing to do is to check the settings or the operating instructions for your router to see how this works.
