Whoa, a turtle! You might think the Toniebox has hidden in a little shell and doesn’t want to come out, but the code word ‘Turtle’ actually indicates that the Toniebox cannot find your known Wi-Fi network.
The turtle likely appeared in one of the following situations:
If you heard the code word ‘Turtle’ while you were away from home, this means that the Toniebox wanted to connect to the Toniecloud but couldn't. Here's how to fix it:
- If you have access to an available Wi-Fi network, you can simply connect the Toniebox to this network using my.tonies.com/wifi or the mytonies app. Please note that the Toniebox cannot connect to hotspots with an upstream login page, i.e. what is known as a ‘captive portal.’ Locations like coffee shops and public centers typically use this type of connection.
- The Toniebox can also connect to a mobile hotspot provided by a smartphone. You can find out exactly how this works here in our help center article: How do I activate a mobile hotspot?
If you heard the code word 'Turtle' when you were attempting to connect to a Wi-Fi that is different than the one the Toniebox was originally set up with, here's how to fix it:
- Since the Toniebox can remember up to 7 different networks, you can simply connect it to a new Wi-Fi network using my.tonies.com/wifi.
If you heard the code word 'Turtle' and your Wi-Fi configuration has changed since the Toniebox was first set up, here's how to fix it:
-
Got a new router, changed service providers, or changed the Wi-Fi password?
- Connect to the new Wi-Fi network using my.tonies.com/wifi.
-
Changed the security settings on your router?
- Please check whether advanced settings preventing connection with the network (e.g. MAC address filter, firewall, guest network configuration) are active in your router.
-
Turned off the 2.4 GHz frequency range on your router or switched to 5 GHz?
- Typically, if your router is producing both a 2.4GHz connection and a 5GHz connection, you will see two different available WiFi connections (For example, "TP-Link 2.4G" and "TP-Link 5G"). If you only see one connection name, you might have to take a look at your router's settings to make both connections visible.
-
Started up or turned off a Wi-Fi extender?
- First check that the Toniebox is close enough to the Wi-Fi signal. Your extender may also create an additional network with its own login details. Make sure you are entering the correct login details.
If you continue to run into issues, send us a message including your Toniebox ID and we will get to the bottom of it!
