Wow, an owl! It can be a sign that there’s a connection issue. There’s no need to panic. The best thing to do is wait for a moment and simply try to connect to the Wi-Fi again.
But if the owl can’t be scared away properly, let’s find out what kind it is and how best to deal with it. We suspect this bird came fluttering in in one of the following situations:
- You have tried to start up your Toniebox and perform the initial installation process.
- You wanted to connect your already installed Toniebox to another Wi-Fi network.
- Your Toniebox tried to connect to a Wi-Fi network because

- If the code word ‘owl’ is uttered during the installation process, we should treat your Toniebox to a fresh start and reset it to factory settings. Here’s how:
- Restart your router by unplugging it from the power supply, waiting 10 to 15 seconds and then plugging it back in again. Waiting is important to ensure that every part of the router is briefly without electricity and you can perform a clean restart. When restarted, the router cleans up its interim storage and deletes unnecessary connection data. This clears a path, so to speak, for the Toniebox.
- Log in to my.tonies.com with your login details and remove the Toniebox from your household in the ‘Tonieboxes’ navigation point.
- Place the Toniebox on the charging station connected to the power supply and turn them both upside down together so the ears are pointing downwards.
- Hold down both ears simultaneously for around 10 seconds until you hear an audio signal and the Toniebox turns off.
The Toniebox is now back in factory default condition. Please go through the entire installation process again at my.tonies.com/setup durch.
If you still cannot make any headway, please contact our support. - You have already installed your Toniebox and wanted to connect it to another Wi-Fi network when you heard the code word ‘owl’
or - Your Toniebox tried to connect to the Wi-Fi network when you
- put on a new Tonie or Creative-Tonie.
- squeezed one ear for three seconds.
In both instances, restarting the Toniebox and/or your router may help.
- Turn the Toniebox upside down so the ears are pointing downwards. It must not be sitting on the charging station!
- Hold down both ears simultaneously for around 10 seconds until you hear an audio signal.
Now try to reconnect to the Wi-Fi again or put on a Tonie. If you still hear the ‘owl’ code word, please get in touch with our support, stating your Toniebox ID.
Another final note:
Your Wi-Fi router may be universally set to require manual allocation of a static IP to new devices. The Toniebox requires a DHCP server to operate. This should be activated as standard in all Wi-Fi routers. The best thing to do is to check the settings or the operating instructions for your router to see how this works. If that works, try to connect your Toniebox to the Wi-Fi again.
